Behind every safety rule stands a reason. And that reason almost always has something to do with someone getting hurt, making “every safety rule written in blood.”
Not that this simple truth stops some people from breaking the rules, or complaining about the rules. But every time someone violates a safety rule, they’re putting someone in harm’s way. Most often, it’s themselves; but not always.
To illustrate the point, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
There’s a common safety procedure that has as its fundamental purpose the prevention of a tragedy happening for exactly what’s pictured here. It’s also the most likely reason for this requirement.
Two questions:
- What do you think that requirement is?
- If someone does not follow that procedure, who’s most likely to be the victim?
