“From now on every move must be made with total precision and purpose.”
~Felonius Gru
Good Work. It’s a complement pretty much anyone can appreciate receiving – or giving – especially while on the job.
The complement is often given to describe the quality of the final product, after the work has been completed, and without having seen the process used to achieve the result. While it’s a great complement, a more appropriate complement to give in appreciation of the final product would be “good result”.
“Work” is defined as activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
In that light the complement becomes much more powerful when used in the correct context, to show appreciation for the care given in the execution of the work.
When work is done well, the activities leading to the result are done with care and precision. This refers to how we operate in the environment around us, how we take care of ourselves, and how well the task itself is performed.
By definition, doing work well also means doing work safely.
The next time you appreciate a job well done, acknowledging the good work that caused the great result is the perfect place to aim praise.
