Il y a toujours une liste\u00a0; une longue liste de d\u00e9fis difficiles en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 auxquels tous les dirigeants du monde entier sont confront\u00e9s, quel que soit leur secteur d&#039;activit\u00e9. Par ordre alphab\u00e9tique, la liste comprend grosso modo : \u00ab attitude, sensibilisation, adh\u00e9sion, complaisance, conformit\u00e9, communication, culture, d\u00e9cisions, environnement, \u00e9quipement\u2026\u2026 \u00bb.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>N&#039;h\u00e9sitez pas \u00e0 compl\u00e9ter la liste vous-m\u00eame ; apr\u00e8s tout, ce sont vos d\u00e9fis \u2013 pas ceux de quelqu&#039;un d&#039;autre.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Quant \u00e0 la source de ces probl\u00e8mes trop familiers, ils proviennent tous du simple fait que les humains effectuent le travail de l\u2019entreprise. En accomplissant leur travail, ils sont entour\u00e9s de choses qui peuvent leur faire du mal. S\u2019il \u00e9tait possible d\u2019exclure compl\u00e8tement tous les humains de chaque processus de travail, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 industrielle n\u2019existerait pas. La direction serait alors laiss\u00e9e seule pour g\u00e9rer l&#039;entreprise et ne se laisserait pas distraire par la s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Pensez aux possibilit\u00e9s !<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Mais cela n&#039;arrivera jamais. M\u00eame dans le meilleur des cas, une arm\u00e9e de robots embauch\u00e9s pour effectuer le travail de l\u2019entreprise aurait encore besoin de conception, d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie, de construction, de mise en service, de d\u00e9marrage, d\u2019inspection et de maintenance. Pour exercer ces fonctions, il faut des personnes, m\u00eame si celles-ci effectuent diff\u00e9rents types de travail et, ce faisant, sont expos\u00e9es \u00e0 un ensemble diff\u00e9rent de risques.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>C&#039;est la nature de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Tant qu\u2019il y aura des gens pour faire le travail, il faudra des dirigeants pour g\u00e9rer leur comportement.<\/p><p><strong>S\u00e9curit\u00e9 comportementale<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<br \/>La simple mention du mot comportement est capable de d\u00e9clencher toute une s\u00e9rie d\u2019\u00e9motions, qui ne sont pas toutes positives. Il fut un temps o\u00f9 la \u00ab s\u00e9curit\u00e9 bas\u00e9e sur le comportement \u00bb \u00e9tait largement consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme le rem\u00e8de \u00e0 tout ce qui s\u2019opposait \u00e0 l\u2019objectif z\u00e9ro dommage. C&#039;\u00e9tait une id\u00e9e tellement g\u00e9niale que j&#039;\u00e9tais assis parmi le public lors de conf\u00e9rences sur la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, \u00e9coutant des professeurs de psychologie comportementale et des m\u00e9decins affirmer : \u00ab J&#039;ai eu cette id\u00e9e.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Comme si cela comptait ou si l\u2019id\u00e9e fonctionnait comme annonc\u00e9.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Cela ne veut pas dire que l&#039;observation de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 entre pairs n&#039;\u00e9tait pas une bonne id\u00e9e : avoir un deuxi\u00e8me regard sur l&#039;ex\u00e9cution du travail r\u00e9pond \u00e0 un certain nombre de d\u00e9fis rencontr\u00e9s dans le monde du travail. Pour les ouvreurs, c&#039;est un trait normal chez nous, les humains, de penser que nous sommes meilleurs que nous ne le sommes r\u00e9ellement et que nous travaillons de mani\u00e8re plus s\u00fbre que nous ne le sommes r\u00e9ellement. Obtenir une dose de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 directement aupr\u00e8s de nos pairs peut nous aider \u00e0 voir la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 telle qu\u2019elle est r\u00e9ellement.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Dans les ann\u00e9es 80, lorsque ma grande usine \u00e9tait l&#039;une des premi\u00e8res \u00e0 adopter cette prochaine grande nouveaut\u00e9, les consultants nous ont dit qu&#039;aucun membre de la supervision ne serait autoris\u00e9 \u00e0 participer au processus, prot\u00e9geant ainsi leurs abonn\u00e9s des r\u00e9percussions si un comportement dangereux \u00e9tait observ\u00e9 par le patron. Cela ne pouvait pas arriver.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Pour chaque action, il y a une r\u00e9action \u00e9gale et oppos\u00e9e. Dans certains milieux, suivre ce mod\u00e8le \u00e9tait per\u00e7u comme une abdication de responsabilit\u00e9 de la part de la direction, comme si les dirigeants disaient \u00e0 leurs subordonn\u00e9s : \u00ab La s\u00e9curit\u00e9 d\u00e9pend de vous, pas de nous \u00bb. Bien s\u00fbr, nous avons suivi ce que les experts nous disaient : \u00ab Suivez le processus \u00bb.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Vous pensez probablement que c&#039;\u00e9tait fou. Je ne serais pas en d\u00e9saccord. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, personne n\u2019appelait \u00e0 un temps mort, posant une sacr\u00e9e bonne question du type\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Quel est r\u00e9ellement le r\u00f4le que les dirigeants doivent jouer dans l\u2019observation et la gestion du comportement de nos partisans\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Il est facile pour les dirigeants de se laisser emporter par le programme du jour et de perdre toute perspective. Alors ne le faites pas.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Ce conseil vient de quelqu\u2019un qui en sait beaucoup parce que j\u2019en ai vu beaucoup. Plus qu&#039;heureux de partager les d\u00e9tails de la longue liste de \u00ab processus \u00bb de gestion que j&#039;ai vus aller et venir au cours de sept d\u00e9cennies remontant \u00e0 la grille de gestion de Blake Mouton dans les ann\u00e9es 60, cela ne vous int\u00e9resse pas vraiment.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Votre d\u00e9fi consiste \u00e0 garder votre point de vue dans le feu de l\u2019action. Si vous ne le faites pas, il est tout \u00e0 fait possible qu&#039;il y ait un moment dans un avenir lointain o\u00f9 quelqu&#039;un parviendra \u00e0 la m\u00eame conclusion \u00e0 propos de quelque chose que vous faites aujourd&#039;hui.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>Comportement du leader<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<br \/>La simple v\u00e9rit\u00e9 est qu\u2019il est impossible d\u2019\u00e9chapper \u00e0 la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de g\u00e9rer le comportement\u00a0; c&#039;est idiot de penser autrement. Quant \u00e0 savoir par o\u00f9 commencer le management, c&#039;est une \u00e9vidence : avec vous, le leader.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Pourtant, lorsqu&#039;il s&#039;agit de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, les dirigeants ciblent instinctivement le comportement de leurs subordonn\u00e9s comme point central de leur activit\u00e9 de leadership. Par cons\u00e9quent, ils produisent une liste de d\u00e9fis qui semblent enti\u00e8rement li\u00e9s au comportement de leurs abonn\u00e9s\u00a0:\u00a0<em>ils<\/em>\u00a0ne suivez pas les r\u00e8gles,\u00a0<em>ils\u00a0<\/em>prendre des raccourcis,\u00a0<em>ils sont<\/em>\u00a0complaisant. Un g\u00e9n\u00e9ral cinq \u00e9toiles et ancien pr\u00e9sident, Dwight Eisenhower, avait raison lorsqu\u2019il observait : \u00ab Le leadership est l\u2019art d\u2019amener quelqu\u2019un d\u2019autre \u00e0 faire quelque chose que vous voulez faire \u2013 parce qu\u2019il veut le faire. \u00bb\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Il n\u2019y a rien de mal dans cette fa\u00e7on de penser. Le processus d\u2019observation par les pairs est un moyen de relever de tels d\u00e9fis, mais il ne dispense pas le leader d\u2019observer de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re et, lorsque cela est n\u00e9cessaire, de corriger son comportement. Ce qui am\u00e8ne \u00e0 l&#039;autre cible appropri\u00e9e pour les activit\u00e9s du leader : le leader.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Pour souligner l&#039;\u00e9vidence, dont le comportement est-il n\u00e9cessaire d&#039;observer, d&#039;analyser, de d\u00e9cider d&#039;intervenir et de dire quelque chose ? Le chef, bien s\u00fbr. Ce qui est encore plus fondamental en termes de comportement, un leader qui souhaite que chaque adepte se conforme aux r\u00e8gles doit suivre toutes les r\u00e8gles lui-m\u00eame.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>C&#039;est ce qu&#039;on appelle \u00ab\u00a0Principer par l&#039;exemple\u00a0\u00bb, un terme artistique populaire pour d\u00e9signer le \u00ab\u00a0comportement du leader\u00a0\u00bb.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Cela dit, le comportement des dirigeants couvre un spectre d\u2019activit\u00e9s bien plus large que le simple fait de donner le bon exemple, aussi influent soit-il. Prenons l&#039;exemple des comportements \u2013 actions \u2013 dans lesquels le leader doit s&#039;engager correctement pour amener un suiveur \u00e0 se conformer \u00e0 une proc\u00e9dure : cr\u00e9er et communiquer la proc\u00e9dure ; former le suiveur\u00a0; \u00e9tablir et ex\u00e9cuter le processus par lequel le suiveur reconna\u00eet que la proc\u00e9dure s&#039;applique \u00e0 la situation dans laquelle il se trouve en train de travailler.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Lorsque toutes ces conditions pr\u00e9alables sont remplies avec succ\u00e8s, l\u2019adepte choisit alors de s\u2019y conformer. Si toutes ces conditions ne sont pas remplies, si le suiveur ne suit pas, le comportement rat\u00e9 est celui du leader.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Autrement dit, m\u00eame si la plupart de ces d\u00e9fis de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 difficiles impliquent le comportement du suiveur, dans de nombreux cas, le comportement du leader en est la cause et le comportement du suiveur, un sympt\u00f4me.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>\u00c0 la recherche de la sagesse<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Lorsqu&#039;il s&#039;agit d&#039;appr\u00e9cier les moments o\u00f9 \u00ab c&#039;est sur eux \u00bb et quand \u00ab c&#039;est sur moi \u00bb, il serait juste de dire que c&#039;est le sujet de la sagesse. Pour la plupart d&#039;entre nous, la \u00ab capacit\u00e9 de discerner les qualit\u00e9s et les relations int\u00e9rieures \u00bb et les \u00ab connaissances accumul\u00e9es \u00bb \u2013 ainsi que mon Webster d\u00e9finit la sagesse \u2013 viennent avec l&#039;exp\u00e9rience. Beaucoup d&#039;exp\u00e9rience!<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Pourtant, l\u2019observation et la r\u00e9flexion sont des ingr\u00e9dients cl\u00e9s du processus. Comme quelqu&#039;un l&#039;a soulign\u00e9 un jour dans une \u00e9valuation de performance r\u00e9dig\u00e9e pour un employ\u00e9 tr\u00e8s exp\u00e9riment\u00e9 : \u00ab Vous avez acquis une ann\u00e9e d&#039;exp\u00e9rience, trente fois. \u00bb\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Mises en pratique, l\u2019observation et la r\u00e9flexion n\u00e9cessitent un investissement de temps et d\u2019efforts, deux biens rares de nos jours. Il est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement plus facile de \u00ab suivre le processus \u00bb que de s&#039;arr\u00eater et de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 ce qu&#039;est \u2013 et devrait \u00eatre \u2013 le processus. Poser de sacr\u00e9es bonnes questions est souvent qualifi\u00e9 de r\u00e9sistance : creuser plut\u00f4t que creuser. En ce qui concerne la recherche de la sagesse et la r\u00e9sistance, il y a une \u00e9norme diff\u00e9rence entre dire : \u00ab Je ne suis pas d&#039;accord avec \u00e7a \u00bb et demander : \u00ab Comment \u00e7a marche quand\u2026 ?<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Quant \u00e0 savoir o\u00f9 la trouver, la sagesse peut appara\u00eetre dans les endroits les plus \u00e9tranges, m\u00eame sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux. L\u2019astuce pour trouver la sagesse est d\u2019\u00eatre capable d\u2019\u00e9liminer tous les non-sens \u2013 et de se connecter occasionnellement au diamant brut.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Dans un magasin de fournitures pour tracteurs agricoles dans une petite ville du Texas Hill Country, je suis tomb\u00e9 sur l&#039;exemple parfait de ce genre de sagesse. Les gens devant le comptoir, derri\u00e8re le comptoir ou le patron dans le bureau du coin ? Je ne pense probablement pas \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 ni \u00e0 la gestion d\u2019un comportement s\u00e9curitaire.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Cela n&#039;a pas d&#039;importance. Celui-ci est vraiment une affaire de g\u00e9nie, quelque chose qui vaut le temps et les efforts pour y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Un adepte ne peut pas changer qui il est ; un leader non plus.
